Imagine yourself preparing a delicious meal for some special guests. You are
grateful that you get to create your favorite dish and share your bliss with friends.
As you sing and twirl around your kitchen, collecting ingredients and spices, you are
shocked to find that you are out of a crucial ingredient. You still have time to run to
the store. When you get there, you see in place of your favorite ingredient is a little
sign that says “temporarily out of stock”. A moment of panic – what now?
At Coconut Bliss, this parable became our reality a few months ago.We knew our
supply of coconut milk was diminishing, but did not expect to open the cabinets and
find the shelves bare. Our primary supplier of coconut milk, a family run organic grower
and processor in Thailand, was out of coconuts. The 12-year drought cycle had kept its
word and left the land without enough water to grow the amount of coconuts necessary
to bring endless bounties of Bliss to the people.
What ensued was a siren call of epic proportions...
Samples of coconut milk from around the world arrived to our kitchen, all unique,
all lovely, but none like that from Thailand. We knew we had something special,
but didn’t know how special until we tried to replace it.
Flash back to your delicious meal with special guests: you are committed to sharing
a blissful evening with friends, and decide to proceed with your original meal. You
substitute your favorite ingredient with a new one that is lovely, but different.
Will your friends notice the change? Will they understand your dilemma and still
embrace your delicious dish?
How Thai’d up in Bliss are you?
If you’re like us, this is how the coconut shortage may temporarily affect your Bliss:
1. You may notice a flavor difference in your Coconut Bliss. The temporary
replacement of organic coconut milk from the Philippines and Sri Lanka has
changed the flavor profile. Just as avocados will taste different depending on their
growing conditions and location, so will coconuts.
2. Your local Natural Foods Store may run out of your favorite flavor of Bliss.
This is a temporary shortage due to the coconut milk supply and we estimate it
will only last 2-3 weeks.
How does this parable end? In ecstatic bliss, of course! The drought in Thailand has
ended and our coconut farmer has just reported a successful first crop! Within 4
weeks we will have our first shipment of Thai coconut milk and will be bringing our
original Bliss to you once again.

Thank you for all you do and
